Who Rough Country is

Rough Country is an off-road brand based in Tennessee. On its own site it says it started in 1975 as a shock manufacturer and now makes lift kits, shocks, bumpers, winches, lights and other parts for trucks, Jeeps, SUVs and UTVs. It is best known for bolt-on lift and leveling kits at prices well below most premium lift brands.

Our Rough Country range is small. We list 14 parts, almost all for the Ram 1500 and Jeep. If your truck is not covered here, the links below take you to the full lift pages for each truck, where other brands fill the gaps.

How to choose a Rough Country kit

Leveling kit or lift kit

A leveling kit only raises the front, usually about 1.5 to 2 inches, so the truck sits level and clears a slightly bigger tire. A lift kit raises both ends. On the Ram 1500, Rough Country's 3.5 inch kits include new upper control arms, which keep the front geometry in a better range than spacers alone. Our leveling kit vs lift kit guide covers the trade-offs.

Check your exact trim

  • The 1.5 inch kit is for the Ram 1500 TRX and RHO only, and the listing says it does not fit trucks with factory air ride.
  • There are separate 2 inch Ram 1500 kits for trucks with and without air suspension.
  • The Wrangler kits are split by Rubicon and by the 392 four-door. Match the listing to your trim.

Price tells you what is in the box

The $54.95 Ram and $59.95 Grand Cherokee kits are basic bolt-on levels. The $349.95 Ram kit uses complete lifted struts, so there is no strut disassembly. The $1,019.95 and $1,119.95 Jeep kits include more parts, such as a forged track bar and, on the Gladiator, shocks.

Rough Country vs other brands we carry

Rough Country vs ReadyLIFT: both sell bolt-on levels and mid lifts at similar prices. ReadyLIFT covers more GM, Ford, Toyota and Nissan trucks in our catalog, while Rough Country covers more Ram 1500 and Jeep. Rough Country vs BDS: BDS systems cost more and are sold in several boxes, but they offer bigger lifts and Fox shock options.

Rough Country FAQ

Is a Rough Country lift kit worth it?
For a daily driven truck or Jeep that needs room for bigger tires, Rough Country kits are a low-cost bolt-on option. If you tow heavy, drive fast off-road or want adjustable shocks, a higher-end system costs more but gives you more control.
Where is Rough Country based?
Rough Country says it is based in Tennessee and started in 1975 as a shock manufacturer.
What Rough Country kits does Lower HQ carry?
We carry 14 Rough Country parts for the Ram 1500, Jeep Wrangler JL, Gladiator JT, Grand Cherokee and Dodge Durango, from $29.95 to $1,119.95.
Does the Rough Country Ram 1500 leveling kit fit trucks with air suspension?
Only the kit listed for air suspension does. The 1.5 inch TRX kit says it does not fit factory air ride, and there are separate 2 inch kits for trucks with and without air suspension.
Do I need an alignment after a Rough Country lift?
Yes. Any lift or level changes your front suspension angles, so get an alignment after the install.
