Who Ford Performance is

Ford Performance Parts, still labeled Ford Racing on many part numbers and on its parts site, is Ford's own line of aftermarket parts engineered for Ford-powered vehicles. On the chassis side it sells springs, shocks and adjustable suspension, handling packs, control arms and stabilizers, and steering systems. On our store, most of its range is Mustang handling parts, from lowering springs to complete handling packs, plus FP Tuned by Fox shocks and coilovers for Ford trucks. Lower HQ is not a Ford Performance dealer and has no relationship with Ford.

We list 104 items under Ford Performance, and about 52 are for the Mustang.

Ford Performance lowering springs: street or track

For the 2015 and newer Mustang, Ford sells two main spring kits:

  • Street lowering springs (M-5300-S65S): Ford says they lower the car about 1.0 inch, fit 2015-2024 Mustang GT and 2.3L EcoBoost Fastback models, keep ride quality but may ride slightly harsher than stock, work with the production struts, shocks and sway bars, and include jounce bumpers and rear anti-squeak pads.
  • Track lowering springs (M-5300-YA): also about 1.0 inch lower, for 2015-2023 GT and 2.3L Fastbacks, with a focus on handling and track use and a slightly harsher ride than stock. Ford designed them to work with its track strut and shock kit and track sway bar kit.

Neither kit works on MagneRide cars. For a daily driver on stock dampers, the street kit is the safe choice. If you plan to add Ford's track dampers and bars, the track kit is built to go with them. For the 2024 Mustang, we list separate track kits for the 2.3L and for the GT coupe with passive suspension.

For older Mustangs, we list a 2005-2014 1.5 inch drop spring kit, a 2005-2014 GT 1.0 inch track spring kit, 2007-2014 Shelby GT500 springs, 2012-2013 Boss 302 springs and a 1979-2004 spring kit. Our Mustang lowering springs by generation guide compares them with other brands.

Handling packs vs buying parts one by one

A handling pack bundles springs, dampers and bars that Ford tuned together, so you skip the guesswork on spring and damper matching. It costs more upfront: $1,595 for the 2015-18 Street Handling Pack and $2,342.18 for the 2005-2014 GT coupe assembled pack on our store. Buying springs first and adding dampers later spreads the cost, but you'll want dampers made for the lower height eventually. Our Mustang coilovers vs lowering springs guide covers the next step up.

Fitment coverage

  • Mustang: about 52 parts across the Fox body, SN95, S197, S550 and S650. See Mustang suspension.
  • F-150: lowering springs and kits for 2004-2018 trucks and FP Tuned by Fox leveling parts for 2015-2020 trucks. See F-150 lowering kits and F-150 lift and leveling kits.
  • Ranger: a 2019-22 FP Tuned by Fox front coilover. See Ranger suspension.
  • Focus: 2000-2005 Focus suspension kits and an SVT Focus strut and shock kit.
  • Bronco: a rear axle bearing and seal kit and an underhood air compressor kit, not suspension parts.

Ford Performance vs alternatives we carry

  • Eibach Pro-Kit and Sportline springs are the main alternative for the S550 and S650 Mustang, at similar prices, and Eibach also lists separate 2024 Pro-Kits for MagneRide cars. See Eibach.
  • BMR Suspension covers Mustang rear control arms, caster camber plates and sway bars for the Fox body through the S550 and GT500. See BMR Suspension.

What else you'll need

  • An alignment after lowering. Ford notes its springs may require one.
  • Rear toe links for Performance Pack cars that see track use; we list Ford's Performance Pack rear toe link kit.
  • Street legality checks. Ford notes that not all Ford Racing parts may be installed on vehicles driven on public roads, so read the part notes.

Springs are a few hours at a shop. Handling packs and coilovers take longer. Warranty terms are set by each brand.

Ford Performance Suspension FAQ

How much do Ford Performance lowering springs lower a Mustang?
Ford lists both its 2015 and newer street kit (M-5300-S65S) and track kit (M-5300-YA) at about 1.0 inch of drop. Older kits vary, such as the 2005-2014 kit we list with a 1.5 inch drop.
What is the difference between Ford Performance street and track lowering springs?
Ford says the street kit keeps ride quality and works with the production struts, shocks and sway bars. The track kit focuses on handling and track use and is designed to work with Ford's track strut and shock kit and track sway bar kit.
Do Ford Performance lowering springs work with MagneRide?
No. Ford states that its 2015 and newer street and track lowering spring kits do not work on Mustangs with MagneRide. We list a separate handling pack for 2018-19 MagneRide cars.
Do I need an alignment after Ford Performance lowering springs?
Ford notes the springs may require an alignment after installation, and any drop changes camber and toe. Plan an alignment right after the install.
Are Ford Performance parts street legal?
Many are, but Ford notes that not all Ford Racing parts may be installed on vehicles driven on public roads. Read the notes on the specific part before you order.
What is FP Tuned by Fox?
It is a line of Fox shocks and coilovers tuned by Ford Performance. We list an FP Tuned by Fox 2.0 IFP leveling kit, single front coilovers and rear shocks for the 2015-20 F-150, and a front coilover for the 2019-22 Ranger.
