How to choose

A 4WD Super Duty has a solid front axle on coil springs, and the front sits noticeably lower than the rear from the factory. A 2 to 2.5 inch leveling kit closes that gap. The simplest version is a coil spacer, such as the Body Armor 2.0 and 2.5 inch spacers. At 2.5 inches the stock shocks can run short on travel, so look for kits with shock extensions or new shocks, like the MaxTrac 2 inch kit with extenders or the Cognito kit with Bilstein shocks.

Because the axle is located by a track bar, raising the front shifts it slightly to one side. At 2 to 2.5 inches this is usually small, but it is worth checking that the steering wheel is centered and the axle sits square after the install.

The Air Lift LoadLifter kits do a different job. They add adjustable air springs to the rear leaf pack, so you can raise the rear when hitched to a heavy trailer and let air out when empty. They pair well with a front leveling kit on a truck that tows.

Price range

Coil spacers start around $75, most kits fall near $400, and rear air helper systems reach about $815.

FAQ

Will a leveling kit change how my F-250 rides?

A spacer keeps the factory springs, so ride feel changes little. Kits with new shocks can change damping, and ride quality depends on the shocks chosen.

Does a leveling kit help when towing?

Not directly. Front leveling corrects stance, while rear air helpers such as the LoadLifter are the parts that handle rear squat under load.
