Who Steer Smarts is

Steer Smarts is based in Plymouth, Michigan. The company says every Steer Smarts product is made in the USA and tested in-house at its 10,000 sq ft testing and R&D lab, and that its team is backed by a long history of designing parts for Detroit automakers. It is best known for the Yeti XD line of heavy-duty Jeep steering, including the "No Drill" top-mount drag link and the Griffin attenuator. Steer Smarts also makes track bars and sway bars, and parts for the Ford Bronco and Ram 2500 and 3500.

We carry 18 Steer Smarts parts right now, mostly Yeti XD steering for the Jeep Wrangler and Gladiator.

How to choose between Steer Smarts parts

Top-mount vs bottom-mount drag link

A top-mount drag link sits above the knuckle, which flattens the steering angle on a lifted Jeep and helps reduce bump steer. The "No Drill" JK top-mount link (78063001) is for at least 3 in of lift. A bottom-mount link uses the factory mounting and is the easier swap at lower heights. Our listings for the JK and JL bottom-mount links cover stock to 6.5 in of lift.

Griffin attenuator

The 78077002 drag link adds a Griffin XD attenuator, which Steer Smarts lists among its own inventions. This version is listed for JL and JT Jeeps with 4 to 6.5 in of lift. Choose it if you want the top Yeti XD drag link and don't mind the higher price.

Steel vs aluminum tie rods

The steel Yeti XD tie rods are the strongest choice for JL and JT owners on big tires. The Pro-Series aluminum tie rod for the JK saves weight and costs more at $710.99. Both are greaseable.

Check the details

Watch the fine print: the sector shaft brace is for JL and JT Jeeps with a steel steering box, the UD60 drag link is for 68.5 in wide axles, the Bronco tie rod ends do not fit Hoss 3.0 racks, and the HD-N stabilizer needs a separate install kit.

What else you'll need

Any tie rod or drag link change needs a toe alignment. If you change the drag link, recheck steering wheel center. Steer Smarts says flipping a JK to its top-mount drag link also needs the track bar relocation bracket (79017001, $208.99 here) to keep the track bar and drag link parallel. Our tie rod end symptoms guide helps you find the worn part first.

Steer Smarts vs alternatives we carry

TeraFlex sells a JK tie rod kit for $712.99 on our store, close to Steer Smarts pricing. Steer Smarts has the wider range of drag links and braces. For lift-related geometry on a JK, the JKS steering and caster correction kit is another route.
