Who Nolathane is

Nolathane is a polyurethane bushing and chassis parts brand from Australia and New Zealand, where it calls itself the number one replacement and enhancement bushing brand and cites more than 50 years in business. Its range covers suspension bushings, control arms, radius arms, panhard rods, trailing arms, sway bars and sway bar links, plus steering rack, engine mount and shock bushings. Nolathane now runs a warehouse and technical support team in California and publishes a North American catalog, which is why its parts show up for US cars and trucks.

The brand is best known for polyurethane replacement bushings. Polyurethane is firmer than factory rubber, so it holds suspension parts in place more tightly. You get sharper steering and less clunk, with a little more road feel coming through.

How to choose between Nolathane lines

Bushings or a sway bar?

If the car clunks over bumps, wanders under braking or the tires wear oddly, start with bushings. Worn rubber lets the arms move, and new polyurethane takes that slop out. If the suspension is tight but the car leans too much in corners, a thicker sway bar is the fix. Many owners do both, but bushings come first because a big bar on worn mounts just moves the problem around.

Fixed or adjustable sway bars

Most of our Nolathane bars are fixed, which means one stiffness. A few have 2 or 3 mounting holes, so you can change how stiff the bar is. Pick adjustable if you plan to change tires, springs or ride height later, or if you want to tune front to rear balance. Pick fixed if you just want less body roll on a stock height car.

Body mounts on older trucks

Body mount kits replace the pucks between the body or cab and the frame. On a 40 year old truck the rubber is often cracked or gone, so the cab rattles and the doors may not line up. A full Nolathane set includes the bushings and sleeves, and several kits include assembly grease and an install guide. Plan for seized bolts and cage nuts on rusty trucks.

Alignment correction bushings

The alignment correction kit we list adds a range of minus 0.5 to plus 0.5 degrees of rear camber on 2008 to 2017 models. That helps lowered cars that can't reach factory camber specs. For larger changes, look at camber and alignment kits.

Install notes

  • Pressed-in bushings need the old bushing pushed out. Some people burn the old rubber out, but a press or a shop is cleaner and safer.
  • Grease polyurethane bushings on every surface that moves. Dry poly squeaks.
  • Torque arm and bar bolts with the car at ride height, not hanging on the jack, so the bushings don't preload.
  • On lowered or lifted cars, use the right length end links so the bar sits at a sensible angle. Our sway bar end links guide explains the options.
  • Get an alignment after you replace control arms or their bushings.

Nolathane vs other bushing brands we carry

Whiteline is also an Australian polyurethane and sway bar brand, and we carry far more Whiteline parts, so it covers more performance cars. If Nolathane doesn't list your car, check Whiteline next. Energy Suspension and Prothane are US polyurethane brands with deep coverage for older American trucks and muscle cars. Prices are close across all of them, so choose by which brand makes the exact part for your vehicle.

Costs

A single position of Nolathane bushings costs $82.99 to $142.99 on our store. A full body mount set runs $86.99 to $306.99. Sway bars cost $132.99 to $422.99. Add an alignment if you change arm bushings, and shop labor if you don't have a press. Warranty terms are set by each brand.

Nolathane Bushings FAQ

Where is Nolathane from?
Nolathane is a bushing and chassis parts brand from Australia and New Zealand with more than 50 years in business. It now has a California warehouse and a North American catalog.
Are Nolathane bushings polyurethane?
Yes. Nolathane makes polyurethane suspension bushings, which are firmer than factory rubber and hold the arms more tightly for sharper steering.
Do polyurethane bushings squeak?
They can if they run dry. Grease every moving surface on install, and several Nolathane kits include assembly grease for this.
Do polyurethane bushings make the ride harsher?
Slightly. You feel more of the road than with soft rubber, but most street drivers find the change small next to the gain in steering precision.
Should I get a fixed or adjustable Nolathane sway bar?
Fixed bars suit a stock height car where you just want less body roll. Adjustable bars with 2 or 3 holes suit owners who will change tires, springs or ride height later.
Do I need an alignment after installing Nolathane bushings?
Yes, after any control arm or arm bushing change. Body mounts and sway bar bushings do not usually need one.
What if Nolathane does not make a part for my car?
Check Whiteline, another Australian polyurethane and sway bar brand with much wider coverage on our store, or Energy Suspension and Prothane for older American trucks.
