Spring rates differ by engine, body style and MagneRide, so match the exact years, trim and damper type on each listing.

How to choose

Pick the drop first. Eibach Pro-Kit springs lower the car about an inch, enough to cut the wheel gap without hurting ride. Sportline springs go lower and stiffer for a more aggressive stance. A larger drop shortens bump travel on stock dampers, so for 1.5 inches or more consider matched shocks or the coilover kits listed here from Pedders and Godspeed.

On S550 and S650 cars, MagneRide matters. Cars with magnetic dampers need springs listed for MagneRide. On the S197, the solid rear axle is located by a panhard bar, so lowering moves the axle slightly to one side, and an adjustable panhard bar re-centers it. On S550 cars the independent rear gains negative camber as it drops, so a rear camber and toe check is worth doing.

The Pro-Plus kits bundle springs with anti-roll bars, a good option if you also want less body roll.

Price range

Spring kits start around $200, most sets are near $395, and coilover and shock packages reach about $1,530.

FAQ

Can I keep my stock shocks with lowering springs?

For a mild drop of about an inch, many owners do. For lower kits, shocks valved for the shorter stroke last longer and control the car better.

Do lowering springs need an alignment?

Yes. Lowering changes camber and toe, so align the car after install.
