How Much Does It Cost to Lower a Car? Real Prices by Method

Lowering a car costs anywhere from about $140 for a set of lowering springs to $1,800 or more for air suspension, before installation and an alignment. Most people spend $190 to $275 on springs or $1,000 to $1,100 on a coilover kit. The prices below come from the suspension we list at Lower HQ, checked on October 19, 2026.

What each way of lowering costs

Method Typical price (middle half of listings) Lowest listed Adjustable height?
Lowering springs $189 to $274 $140 No
Coilover kit $995 to $1,095 $695 for some cars Yes
Air struts About $1,795, plus air management Varies by car Yes, on demand
Truck lowering kits About $1,320 for kits with shocks $750 No

Coilover prices are tight because most kits we list are SF Racing, whose Sport kits run $695 to $1,095 depending on the car. Godspeed kits sit around $750. Air struts lower the car the most and raise it again for driveways, but they need a compressor, tank, valves and a controller, which are sold separately unless the listing says otherwise.

The extras people forget

  • Alignment. Every drop changes camber and toe, so budget for an alignment after any lowering. Prices vary by shop, so get a local quote.
  • Camber arms or plates. Bigger drops often push camber out of range. The camber parts we list mostly run $180 to $317.
  • Bump stops. Stock bump stops can ride on the shock once the car is low. Replacement bump stops mostly cost $16 to $93.
  • Shorter shocks with springs. Springs alone work for a mild drop. For more than about an inch and a half, shorter or sport shocks last longer.
  • Installation. Springs and coilovers both need the struts out of the car. Shop labor varies a lot by car and region.

Which one is worth it?

If you want a modest, fixed drop on a daily driver, springs are the cheapest way to do it. If you want to set the exact height, adjust damping or track the car, coilovers cost about four to five times as much but replace the springs and shocks in one kit. If you need the car low at shows and normal height on the road, air suspension is the only option that does both.
